Here is a short list of Firefox extensions that I think are essential for your everyday browsing. I don’t want to persuade you into using them, this is more like a note to self for future reference.
- Language packs. Translations, but more importantly spell checking.
- AdBlock Plus. Nothing is more irritating than a ton of flashing images saying “You are the 10000000th customer!”
- Firebug. Although not a flawless web page debugger, it is the best one available.
- NoScript. Web browsing without all the useless and CPU-intensive JavaScript is simply a better place.
- HTTPS Everywhere / HTTP Nowhere. Making sure you are sending your data over an encrypted channel is a must these days.
- KeeFox. No need to remember passwords for every 10-years-ago-visited server. Just connect to your KeePass keychain!
Other nice to have extensions are these:
- YouTube HD. Why watch anything in SD?
- YouTube ALL HTML5. Because Flash is so 2010.
And it goes without saying that if there is one thing you don’t need, it is Adobe *, e.g. Flash. Just don’t download it. No one needs it. No one.
